Richard Lowenberg

Richard Lowenberg has spent nearly 50 years as a cultural worker/agent/activist, creatively integrating inquiry, understandings and grounded collaborative involvements in non-profit organization directing and stewardship, rural networked tele-communities and information society development, ecological economics research, systems design, new media arts, performance, writing and eco-cultural practices. Director, 1st-Mile Institute, SARC (Scientists/Artists Research Collaborations), and New Mexico Broadband Initiative, 2006-present. (www.1st-mile.org) 

SARC has collaborated with Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, New Mexico Consortium, Santa Fe Institute, UNM, NSF-SEAD, plus other research, educational, cultural and funding institutions in the U.S. and internationally. Primary current projects:
• “ECOS”: arts-sciences-society ‘grand challenges’ initiative, 2013 - current.
• “Eco-Value Scale”: a current work-in-progress, media-sculpture public artwork, and educational software project, addressing the balancing of the Earth’s Economy.
• “Info/Eco”, a body of creative works, writings and presentations on development of a networked local-global information/economy/ecology. (planned MIT Press book)
