Peter Friederici

Peter Friederici writes about connections between humans and nature. He is the author of several books, including Nature’s Restoration: People and Places on the Front Lines of Conservation and The Suburban Wild. His essays have been collected in several anthologies, including The Best American Spiritual Writing. He regularly contributes reportage and essays to periodicals ranging from Audubon and Orion to the High Country News and InsideClimate News. His reporting for High Country News was recognized with a reporting award from the Society of Environmental Journalists. Friederici is associate professor of journalism at Northern Arizona University, where he has overseen a wide range of inquiry, reporting and writing by both undergraduate and graduate students. Some of his students’ oral history investigations of environmental change were compiled for the book What Has Passed and What Remains: Oral Histories of Northern Arizona’s Changing Landscapes.
