Patricia Badani

Pat Badani (MFA, School of the Art Institute of Chicago) is an arts practitioner, critical thinker, educator, editor, and curator. Born in Argentina, she has lived and worked out of Mexico, France, Canada, and the USA. She has exhibited her work, participated in conferences and published in North and South America, Europe and Asia. Badani has received over twenty awards and commissions. Recent awards include a one-year media arts research grant in 2001 (Canada Council for the Arts) for her transnational migration project “Where are you from?_Stories,” and a 2012 “Robert Heinecken Trust Fund” for her current project “Al Grano” dealing with GM corn debates. Her artworks have been discussed in monographic catalogues; feature essays in art journals; articles in art magazines; and in anthologies by several authors. Badani has been an educator in Canada, in France, and in the USA at Illinois State University where she created and taught the first digital media curriculum in the School of Art. She was also acting Director of the Interdisciplinary Media Arts graduate program at Colombia College, Chicago. Currently she is Graduate Studio and Research Advisor for Transart Institute. Additionally, Pat Badani is in the Board of Directors of the New Media Caucus, and is Editor-in-Chief of Media-N, the NMC’s international scholarly journal. Interested in the relationship between new media and social practice, Badani’s praxis is concept and context driven and involves artistic production, research and writing around such topics as inhabitation, transculturality, human migration, and sustainable living. Her work engages experimental new media in net-artworks, responsive screen-based installations involving motion capture and interaction design, as well as Augmented Reality experiences in public space using Android and iOS mobile devices.
